  THE NEW ATTACKS ON EDUCATION ARTICLES

  hey all... i'm new to this forum... i was wondering if anyone could help me out.... i have been reading all over the place that there are a bunch of new articles out attacking higher education/college.

  which issues are these in?

  i heard that they're in more than one issue.... is it watchtower or awake or both?

  i too grew up jw, pioneered, blah,blah blah, until around the time i moved out.

  well i am new to the board, i have faded away from the truth lies about 6 years ago.

  it still has an effect on me today, so much so i gave the warning in the title.

  this is because one of the things drilled into me, was that its far worse to lead a member of the flock away.

  Welcome, void. First, don't worry about the writing - your meaning comes through, if in a bit of a random order. :) Secondly, I can relate to your experience. It took a long time of being away from the influence of the WTS for me to be able to see it for what it really is.

  i had a scholarship that i didn't take because... well i'm sure you know.

  i did eventually go back to school and get a degree but i feel like i lost ten years.

  i still dream about this often!

  some of my childhood friends stop being jw's so i can have them back as my friends, it would be like a dream come true.

  but some of you might say: "you would take them back as friends?

  MY NAME IS EARL

  last night i downloaded the first two episodes of this show and the last time i laughed so hard was when i watched jay and silent bob strike back, a movie from 2002 which happens to include jason lee who plays two characters resurrected from past kevin smith movies, mallrats and chasing amy.. who else thinks this is the best thing to happen to television since seinfeld got really good?

  if you're familiar with jason lee and mallrats, you can see some of his character brodie in earl.

  the only thing that disturbed me was when i saw jason lee on carson daly's show and he said some disparaging remarks about movies he's been associated with, which makes me wonder if he's had a major falling out with smith.

  last summer i shot my first film.

  i wrote it for school and then decided, "what the hell" i might as well make it over the summer.

  well after much waiting i received an e-mail from out takes dallas (the dallas gay and lesbian film festival) that my film was accepted.

  does anyone know how to make a web page, one that i can use to sell my house on?

  we are trying to sell it by ourselves!

  I don't think this is going to have the desired results. Advertise the house directly. A website, even with being advertised traditionally, will reach only a small audience.

  Are you a "here I am" or a "there you are"?

  a friend of mine read a book about 30 years ago, that said people are basically categorized into two main types.

  here's how you define yourself:.

  when you walk into a room full of people, do you think to yourself "here i am" or do you say "there you are".. i am definitely a "there you are".

  an old gypsy lady just came to my door and asked if she could tell my fortune, as i'm still freaked out by stuff like that i made the excuse of not being able to afford it, she told me as i have such a great future ahead of me she will tell me for free, and then proceeded to tell me something about my family which given the age of my mum could be believed and then told me something really good (however, shes told me not to tell anyone else as this will break my luck).. if it was you, would you believe her?

  She was using the art of "cold reading", which is an old magician/soothsayer trick. It's the same schtick that John Edwards does, only he gets the benefit of television editing (he's really bad at it). It doesn't matter that the things she said could be true - she's a fraud, and will probably return to offer to burn candles for you, at $10 a pop. If you pay her, she'll return with a ruined candle to show you how powerful the curse is, and more candles will be needed. How many depends on your gullibility.
